Kitchen Mistreatment

Living in a handicap accessible apartment means that there are no cabinet doors below the sink. It makes it easy for someone to wheel up under the sink in a wheelchair. However, it is also an unsightly mess!

When we first moved here, the only extra fabric I had to cover this mess was an old pillowcase.

It was better than nothing at all, but still not so pretty. And, unfortunately, this is one of the first things you see when you walk in our door!

I finally broke down and spent $10 on a solution: pretty fabric and a spring rod. I already had the glue gun, steam-a-seam, and safety pins.

Much nicer. And it only took about 15 minutes.

And here is William. He just had to be part of the picture taking process.

  1. It looks great!!! William is so cute :)

  2. Wow- you did a great job! Is it the same fabric as the valance on your window? It looks like it matches perfectly. Sweet picture of William!

  3. Yes, it does look great! Nice job!!

  4. Amy, the fabric is kind of the same as the valance on the window. The window mistreatment is actually two fabrics that are taped together (because I didn't have enough of one or the other 10 months ago when I wanted a curtain up). The fabric on the bottom part of the curtain is the same grapes fabric as below the sink. The fabric on the top of the curtain is a coordinating fabric.

So the short answer to your question, is the fabric is almost/mostly the same. :)

  5. OK so you were the first person I thought of to give that blog award to but I didn't want you to feel pressured to have to give it out to other people becaues I know you have limited time in a day where you have the energy to do this stuff.

But then I decided to give it to you anyways and just remind you that there is no pressure to reciprocate. I just wanted to give your blog a shout-out becuase it's one of the ones that I read on a very regular basis and I think more people should know your amazing story. So, yes. You can check out your award here:

  6. for you...

  7. Wow, it looks really awesome, Rachel! Your decorating skills are amazing. Of course, your adorable assistant, William, is to be commended as well. You'll make a 'Design Star' out of him before long! :0)

Well, I hope you are enjoying a 'good' day and a 'good' weekend. See you again soon!

    Many blessings,

    Teresa <><

  8. I love your solution!! It's a very nice touch. And Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest, by the way!v I have a terrible time picking "bests" too.

  9. That fabric is gorgeous...or maybe I'm just saying that because it looks like my dining room chair cushions and my shelf liner.

And if you did that in 15 minutes, you're a genius and clearly more talented than I in that department.

    I love your banner picture!

Hope you're having a great day, SITSta!
