My husband, Will, is one of the greatest blessings God has given to me. He is a daily example to me of Christ, who gave Himself up for the church. Each day Will chooses to love me and give of himself to take care of me. In order to care for me, Will has to work hard, often missing out on the sleep he needs. He has to manage taking care of the apartment, planning and cooking meals, shopping, and taking care of the children in the evenings when I go to bed. All of this is on top of school, work, and an internship at our church.
As my health declines, Will has told me that his goal is to serve me and to minister to my physical and spiritual needs, no matter what the future holds. He wants make my life better and more beautiful; he wants to bring me as much joy as he can. His desire is to give of himself so that I may benefit and have a more full, more rich life.
I remember very clearly a card that we received when we got married almost 9 years ago. In that wedding card a couple wrote, "We pray that God will bless your marriage such that it will be an example of Christ and the church." God has answered that prayer, and He has given Will a great opportunity to love me self-sacrificially, following the example of Christ loving the church and laying down His life for her.
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her" (Ephesians 5:25, NIV).
Thank you, Will, for loving me and for giving of yourself for me. Thank you for bringing joy into my life. You are a blessing to me!
